How-Tu Tuesdays: Separate company pages and personal profiles on LinkedIn
What?
LinkedIn is the largest online professional network in the world. It boasts 300 million members in over 200 countries. The social media platform allows users to create both company pages and personal profiles.
Why?
- Create and maintain relationships with colleagues, industry peers and business prospects.
- Use your personal profile as an online CV, or export it as a PDF to produce a hard copy.
- Promote your business using a company page and establish a voice for your organisation.
How?
LinkedIn lets you set up both personal profiles and company pages. We’re going to look at how sharing content as a person on LinkedIn is different to sharing content on behalf of a company.
Sign up for our free monthly “How to successfully use LinkedIn for your Business” Q&A Webinar on Tuesday 21st of January 2025.
Your personal profile
Your personal LinkedIn profile lets you connect with like-minded professionals. Similar to a CV, your personal profile includes your occupation, work experience and skills. The profile page lets you invite people to connect with you. LinkedIn allows you to share messages and content with others who you are linked within your personal network by typing or uploading content in the update bar. The content you publish here will be seen as an activity in the newsfeed of those you’re connected with.
Your company page
Instead of setting up a personal profile for your company, try setting up a company page. By setting up a company page, your business can be seen by anyone when they search for your company in the LinkedIn search bar. Posts you publish on your company wall will be seen by people who ‘follow’ your company on LinkedIn. You can also share content from your company page to those in your network by clicking share on a post, allowing people in your network to see the content from your company page, even if they haven’t followed your page yet.
Content that is published on the company page will remain on the wall of your company page unless it is removed, which means that content published on a company page has more longevity than updates you share on your personal profile which are only seen in the newsfeed. Your audience can engage by liking, sharing and commenting on published posts. All activity can be monitored with analytics. Make sure to use your logo, a relevant cover photo and a unique URL to keep your brand consistent and easily identifiable.
Do my LinkedIn connections get notified if I establish a business page?
Often asked question about LinkedIn. Short answer; No, your LinkedIn connections are not automatically notified when you establish a business page.
However, you can choose to share the page on your profile or in a post to inform your network about the new business. Additionally, you can invite your connections to follow the business page once it’s set up, but this action also requires your explicit input—they won’t be notified unless you do so manually.
Company page requirements
LinkedIn has special requirements for setting up a company page. To add a new Company Page you must meet all of the following requirements:
- You must have a personal LinkedIn profile set up with your true first and last name.
- Your profile strength must be listed as Intermediate or All-Star.
- You must have several connections on your profile.
- You must be a current company employee and have your position listed in the Experience section on your profile.
- You must have a company email address (e.g. [email protected]) added and confirmed on your LinkedIn account.
- Your company’s email domain must be unique to the company.

I signed up for the “LinkedIn for Business Professionals” training. Were a non-profit in the US with almost zero knowledge of how to use LinkedIn for our agency, and Rene talked me through every question I had with patience as well as a great sense of humor. We can now actually use our LinkedIn profile to attract employees and publicize our fundraising events, as well as share stories about our successes that might make people even more interested in working for us. I recommend this training to anyone who is interested in building connections and attracting more people to their business or agency.

Hello, I have two accounts on LinkedIn, one personal and the other for my business. I am soon leaving the company, and I want to unlink the two accounts so that the next person can use it. I don’t want my personal account to be linked to the company’s page. How can I remove one without deleting the account?
Hi Sulize, email me on [email protected] as you shouldn’t have two accounts on LinkedIn. You should have a personal account which is connected to a LinkedIn page, not a seperate extra account. Email me and I’ll send you a link to a free 15 min Zoom call to explain how to resolve this, no problem.
If I have a personal account on LinkedIn, AND manage a separate company page, and I block someone from my personal page, can I still view the blocked person’s page, posts etc via the company page I manage?
Hi Susan, if you block someone from your personal account, you won’t be able to access each other’s profiles and you won’t be able to see each other’s shared content unless it’s public. You should manage your company page through your own personal profile and not created a seperate account for the company page so that means you won’t see their posts or profile. This is what LinkedIn help says about it: https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a1380117
This is interesting too: https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a564182
I hope this helps.
I am planning to build a company page for my blog but I want it to not be known to my connections about my company page and vice versa I don’t want my followers of my company page to know who the admin is. As I want to remain hidden from both ways, is this possible?
Hi Armin, apologies for late reply. Yes, that is possible. As long as you don’t add your company page to your personal account nobody knows who is behind it. Nobody can see who is behind the company page.
It seems you need to set up a company page through your personal LinkedIn account, and that you can set up separate admins for this account. However the company page will be forever linked to your personal account. While the two are separate in terms of privacy, my understanding is that there is still an inevitable link where new company connections must be made through your personal account. So two questions:
– Do admins need to log into your personal account before they can access the company page?
– If you sell the business, will the new owners need access to your personal LinkedIn account to make new LinkedIn company connections for the business you have since sold?
– Why is it not advisable to set up a new LinkedIn account with a personal page, then create the company page through that, so that your own personal page can be completely separate?
This is all very confusing.
Thanks
Hi Bill, just noticed your message, apologies.
-No, admins do not need a login to your personal profile. You just add them as admin andf they login with their own personal account
-No, if you sell the business, you can transfer ownershop of your page, not your personal account
-That’s against LinkedIn Terms and Conditions. No problem with creating a personal account first to grow your network and set up a Company page so interested people can follow the page.
We will be adding more free LinkedIn webinars on this subject so stay tuned!
Great article! I see a lot of people asking about “not wanting” to use a personal profile to create a business page.
We are just in the process of creating our business page however without diving in further we signed up to LinkedIn with a business email, and now we have the profile as our business. Should we delete this and create a business page through a personal profile or it will be ok to use a business email to do so? What effect does it have on the account setup/long-term effects?
Hi Helin. You always create a LinkedIn Company page from a personal account by clicking on “Work” in the top navigation and then “Create a Company page”. You then fill in all the business info and you will see that you don’t even have to submit an email address. Just the web address. To set up your personal account it’s recommended to use your work email address but you don’t have to. Looks more professional though. Hope this helps!
How about if I want to delete the personal account I used to create the company page, because both appears in search. How do I delete personal account and leave the company page?
Hi,
We are planning to create a brand new company business page for our startup. We are planning to use business head’s personal profile to create the business page but what happens when the business head leaves the organization? Can the ownership be transferred to someone else ? or is it better to create a new business profile and then create a business page through it?
Hi Neesha, yes you can transfer ownership to other people in the team, no problem. We have a FREE LinkedIn Q&A webinar tomorrow where we will answer your question too, feel free to join us! Register your seat here: https://tuminds.com/workshops/how-to-successfully-use-linkedin-for-your-business-free-webinar/
HI Rene,
We are also trying to transfer ownership to another team member. Do you have a step by step process I could use? I already gave the employee access to the page but now I need to un-attach the company from my profile.
Let me know and thank you for your time,
I have a personal account that I’ve used for years and has many connections. I’ve recently started using LinkedIn Live for interviews. I am now running into an issue of not being able to view analytics for those live interviews. I understand that I may need a company page to post and view analytics. Is that correct? If so, if I post on a company page, will my personal connections see the post if they haven’t followed the company page? Can the interview be posted to my personal news feed and the analytics still be tracked?
Hi Evan, thanks for your getting in touch!
Great to hear you’re using LinkedIn Live for interviews, great use for it. You can indeed create live events from your personal profile and your company page. We haven’t done one yet but I would be very surprised if you don’t get any analytics from your personal live event. The company page indeed provides more analytics so that shouldn’t be an issue. The personal connections that are not following your page will not see a notification but you can link to the company live from your personal account so they will be able to see it. Hope this helps, good luck with the LinkedIn Live’s!
Hi. I need help with transferring the Ownership of a LinkedIn company page. I work for an agency that has recently onboarded a new client, whom has both a LinkedIn personal account and company page under the company name and branding. Client has asked we deactivate the account yet retain the company page. Is there anyway to transfer the page to another Linkedin account?
Hi Zinedine, yes, someone from that company that manages the page currently can add your personal profile to the admin of the page so you can manage it. You don’t need to be connected to that person or company. If you have access to the personal account of that company you can add yourself. Join us on Tuesday the 17th of May where we will show you how to do this during our free Q&A webinar.

Hi, would like to find out if this is doable. We have the company LinkedIn account that are not so active. Hence, we would like to dis-continue using the account so that it is not accessible to the rest (those who liked our page and those who are linked to our LinkedIn account). And will only have one user which is my boss. Pls advice if this is doable and the step of doing it? We cannot deactivate the company page as my boss still for his personal user.
Hi Justine. This requires a little bit more info. Are you able to join us on Tuesday the 17th of May where we will answer questions like this during our free Q&A webinar. Would love to have a chat about this then.

Hello, I am one of the owners of a company any it is my personal profile that is linked to the company page. We are being told by a marketing company that the posts that I am doing on my personal page are negatively effecting our company page and other SEO items from our website. Can you tell me whether there is a link between the personal page and the company page in terms of LinkedIn and how it effects rankings and such?
Hi Jody. No link at all between what you do personally and the business page whatsoever.
Hello there,
I would like to create a linkedin page from a new company which side buisness to my existing job but don’t want my current employer to know. Will it show on my profile or anywhere else that I am working with this other business? Thanks
Hi Elias, yes you can indeed create a LinkedIn company page without linking it to your personal profile. As long as you’re not adding the company page to your experience on your personal profile, your name will not be associated with it. Hello there!
I work for a company that instead of having a company page they have a profile. Is there a way to convert the company profile into a company page? I suggested deleting the profile and making a page from scratch, but they do not want to lose the contacts and the feed.
Thank you
Hi Adriana, unfortunately, you cannot convert a company profile to a LinkedIn company page. And you’re right, best to create a company page from your own profile and post on the profile page a link to your new company page. If you can, join us on Wednesday the 19th at 4pm UK time for our free LinkedIn webinar where we will be able to answer all your LinkedIn questions. You can sign up here: https://tuminds.com/how-to-successfully-use-linkedin-for-your-business-free-webinar/
Hello, I also have a personal and admin profile through my company. The issue I’m having is I’m trying to ‘connect” on the company profile to build our connections etc but it appears that when I go to follow/connect it still is doing it through my personal page. Is there something I’m doing wrong? Or is this just not possible? You’d think with such a high volume of users LinkedIn would update these user profile options. thank you !
Hi Devin. Yes, when you connect with people on LinkedIn you always do this from your personal profile. The best thing you can do is to share a post from your company page to your personal page and mention (tag) your company page into the post which will allow you to respond as the page. Hope this helps. Why not join us on Wednesday the 19th at 4pm UK time for our free LinkedIn webinar where we will be able to answer all your LinkedIn questions. I have a personal LI page that I have had for years and just recently was granted access as an admin to a pre-established company page. Do the other admins have access to my personal LI page in any way? Can they see my messages or access my security information and passwords?
Hi Sharon, thanks for your question. No, other admins will NOT have access to your personal profile and they certainly can’t access your security information or passwords. Join us on the 19th of January when we will be live to answer all your questions. Link in the post. Hope to see you then!
Hello
I want to setup a company page for the company I have just started working with. If I do this, can other admins be appointed without having to give them my login details, as I want to keep my personal Llinkedin account separate from my work.
Many thanks
Hi Rachel,
Multiple Admins can be added to a Company Page without granting any access to your personal profile. LinkedIn has a guide to showcase the different ways of adding, and removing, users from a company page that you may find beneficial: https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/37594/adding-or-removing-admins-on-your-linkedin-page
Hope this helps,
Alastair
Hello,
I have a personal account which is connected to my company’s page. Can i separate them ? for example having 2 login details; 1 for my personal and 1 for the company. so the company not to be linked with my personal account ?
Thanks,
Maria
Hi Maria,
Unfortunately not. LinkedIn requires a Company Page to be linked to a Personal Profile you could however add another user as an Admin if you would prefer not to have this access within your account.
LinkedIn has a very good guide that showcases the different options for adding, editing and removing admins that can be found here: https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/37594/adding-or-removing-admins-on-your-linkedin-page
Hope this helps,
Alastair
Hi Rene,
I have a question related to posting and interacting through LinkedIn. I have a company page with which I want to comment and like different posts. But whenever I go to the notifications bar or scroll through the home page I don’t have the option to interact as the company page, but with my personal profile. How can I change that? For example I know in Facebook you just click the small icon with your profile pic near the comment sections and you can choose with what account to communicate. How can I do that in LinkedIn?
Thank you,
Andreea
Hi Andreea,
Unfortunately, LinkedIn does not offer the same level of functionality, at present, with their Company Pages when compared to Facebook Pages. You can however interact with 3 “Community Hashtags” that you have associated with your company. If you have not set these, they can be added, or edited, via:
– Edit Page
– Community
– Hashtags
Hopefully, this helps increase your page activity and visibility.
Alastair
Hi, is there a way of setting a company page on like if and keeping it separate from my personal linked in account?
I don’t want the two to be linked in anyway.
Many thanks
He Rene
I have created my company’s page on my personal LinkedIn page but other LinkedIn users are unable to see my company’s page. Could you please help me fix this?
Hi Lisa,
Would you be able to let me know the name of the Company Page and I will see if I can view it externally?
Best wishes,
Alastair
We are trying to share content directly from websites to our company linkedin page. When doing this it saying Remove your attachment in order to post from another account. How do we fix this???
I have a linked in profile can I have a separate business page or does it have to be a page linked to my existing page as a business page?
Hi Samantha,
LinkedIn requires users to have a Personal Page to create a Company Page.
Best wishes,
Alastair
Hi Rene
I’m about to set up a LinkedIn page for the NGO I consult for. I need to preserve access for the longevity of the page – for those who come after my colleagues and I. I know I can add people as admins (like Facebook) – but what I am concerned about is that I would like to transfer complete ownership of the page to the next colleague. I.e. should I ever wish to leave LinkedIn or I do not want to be affiliated or tied to the NGO – the page will not be deleted or I will not be able to delete my affiliation with the page.
Is there a solve? I am struggling to find definitive info on this.
Thanks!
Hi Alexis. Yes, you can add multiple admins to a LinkedIn page and if you ever decided to leave LinkedIn, you can remove yourself and the page will not be deleted. Just make sure that there will be a “Super admin” left on the page so they can keep access to the page. Hope this helps.
Hi , How about posts, when I leave a post in the company page, who would it reach out to? will it reach out to only the connections in my personal profile or just the followers of the company page ? If its reaching out to only my connections then I need to add all my business connections in my personal account as well – is this correct?
Hi Erum, yes when you post on the company page it will be shared with the followers of your company page, not your personal contacts. If you want your connections to see it, best to share the content from your company page to your connections. To be able to share your post you need to click on “View as member” button top right. This will allow you to share the post with your connections and even to Anyone on or off LinkedIn. Hope this helps.
Hi Guys
Reading through this post – lots of useful info – first of all thanks for these details – its quite helpful. Now my question is about the reach of the post. When I send posts through the company page, does it reach out to only connections on my personal account ? if yes then it means I need to grow connections related to my business on my personal account?
Hi Erum, I answered your question in a later comment.
How can I tell if a page I manage from my personal account was set up originally as a Company page or simply a page I manage? Assuming if it’s under “Me” in the drop down, then it’s not a Company page. Please confirm that.
I am the admin on the page I manage, but don’t recall if I created from my personal account or if I created a Company page. I believe I did through my personal account. Is there an easy way I can change the page I manage to soley be a Company page using different log-in credentials? Right now, the only way to access/post on our business page is by me logging in with my personal credentials and clicking on the page I manage. I also want to share the business URL link and need to confirm it will not associate my personal account with it. I appreciate your clarification on this.
Hi Rene, can you help me with this doubt.
I have created a company page using my personal LinkedIn account.
But I don’t want my personal connections to see the posts I have made on the company’s page labelled as my posts.
Not sure if this happens or not. Can you help me please?
Jose
Hi Jose. Your personal connections will not be able to see you’ve created that post. That is has been created by you is only visible to admins of your company page. Hope that helps.
I am a super admin on my company’s Showcase page which is linked to my personal LI profile. There are 5 other super admins on this page. Are others able to see my activity on my personal LI account?
Hi Erika.
The Company Page elements are treated as separate entities within LinkedIn other admins, or in your case Super Admins, cannot see any activity within your personal account.
Hi,
I am an admin on my companies LinkedIn Page, so my personal account is linked to the company page. I want to search for a page but not on my personal account, how do I search for a company through the company page.
The search bar takes me back to my personal page everytime and will only let me like or comment through my personal account, not the company account?
Hi Sophie,
Unfortunately, LinkedIn does not have this type of Company Page interaction at present. You can however interact with 3 “Community Hashtags” that you have associated with your company.
If you have not set these, they can be added, or edited, via:
– Edit Page
– Community
– Hashtags
Hopefully this helps,
Alastair
Hi. Can you help me with an info? I am admin on my bosses company page, and connected with my personal profile on LI. If I use my personal profile for personal reasons (exmpl. Searching for a new job opportunity) can my boss see what I am doing?
Hi Mia, the admin rights for a Company Page do not grant other admins access to any of your private information.
I wanted to know if you could help me as I cant ask the support forum at the moment as they are not excepting questions at the moment,
I have started a new job where the company owner sold the company before I started and the company LinkedIn is still connected to the previous owner’s personal account.
I can speak to the previous owner to discuss how to sort this but I’m not sure how you would remove/change the owner of the business account so that we can use the page.
hope that makes sense! thank you!
Hi Georgina, the simplest solution for this would be for the previous owner to add the new owner as an administrator on the LinkedIn Company Page. They should then be able to remove the previous owner’s access.
Hope this helps.
Hello,
I just created a company page for my new startup and I will be having someone managing the profile, but I dont want to give them my login info as that seems to be the only way to access the company page. The person that is suppose to manage the page does not have a personal LinkedIn either, so is there not a general log in option for a LinkedIn company page?
Thanks for your help and support. Stay safe!
Hello Samantha,
Unfortunately without having a personal LinkedIn account there is no way to grant access to manage the Company Page at present.
Best wishes,
Alastair
Hi, this seems strange tbh. I’m in the same boat. What happens if I set up a company page for my employer using my personal page and I decide to leave in the future, how do I allow someone else to maintain the company page?
If I set it up can other people see it’s me who’s set it up?
Thanks for your help
S
Hi Scott,
I would recommend having more than one admin in place to ensure that someone within the company has full control. LinkedIn has a great guide that showcases the options for adding, editing, and removing, Admins from pages that you may find beneficial: https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/37594/adding-or-removing-admins-on-your-linkedin-page
Hope this helps answer your question,
Alastair
Hi
I have created a company page via my personal linkedin profile.
But now I want to go forward with only my company page and somehow not make linked personal profile available to any other linkedin user..
please assist.
Hi Sonil, you can hide your personal profile from search engines if you really do not want anyone to find you.
To hide your public profile:
Click the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.
Click View profile.
Click Edit public profile & URL on the right rail.
Under the Edit Visibility section on the right rail, toggle Your profile’s public visibility to Off.
Dear Rene,
One of my colleagues made our company’s page using his personal profile and he has admin rights. If in case he leaves the organization or deletes his profile or we remove him from the admin rights, will it affect our company’s page?
Your help you be really appreciated.
Regards,
Hello Ekta, as long as you or another member of the company have administration rights there should be no problem.
Hi there
Thank you for sharing this information, I found it really helpful, however I have some questions.
I have created a company page on my Li profile whith me as the admin:
1. Does this company page show up on my personal profile?
2. Can people see that I am the admin of this page?
3. Is this dependant on the licences they have with LI?
Many thanks
Hi Claire, thanks for your comment. To answer your questions;
1. your company page will only show up on your profile if you add it to the Experience tab on your profile
2. No, people won’t see who the admin of the page is
3. No, this is goes for all licences, free or paid.
Hope this answers your questions Claire.
This is helpful, thanks.
HI, how can i post on company page from the company name itself. coz when I post something on company page, it shows as “Posted by (my name)”. I want it be like “Posted by ABC LLC”. Please assist.
Hi Yousef, the “Posted by section” is only visible to page admins to let you see which person in your team published the content. If you visit your page on LinkedIn and click on “view as member” in the top right of your screen it will show you how other visitors see your content.
Hope that helps,
Alastair
Hello Rene,
Many years back I was asked to merge 2 LinkedIn accounts (personal account and separate company account) and that one of them will be deleted. To my surprise even today I receive requests to connect on the deleted account. How do I fix this issue, can you help?
Hi Grac, unfortunately I can’t help you with this, have heard about this issue from a few other people. Best to contact LinkedIn direct via https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/solve/contact Hope this helps.
Thank you.
Hi,
Hope you are well,
I am starting an online business, but in the mean time, I want to keep my current job, until my start up takes off. My boss, is really nosy, and I dont want him or the my employer see my startup activity, for the time being. What can I do, to have them not seeing my LinkedIn Business Page?
Thank you,
Have a great day & keep safe,
Peter
Hi Peter! First of all, good luck with your startup, exciting times! You can create a business page without letting your connections or anyone else know that it’s you behind it as long as you don’t mention or link to it on your personal LinkedIn profile. You can’t however avoid people seeing your business page as it is public. Hope this helps.
Hi Rene,
Are people able to see your personal profile on your company page though? It seems like there is no way to be discrete there.
Hi Chris,
There is no reference to individual profiles within a Company Page, unless that account has it listed as their place of employment. Regular visitors cannot see who page administrators are.
Hope this helps,
Alastair
Thank you. So does that mean anyone who goes on our Company page can have access to my personal page because I am an employee there and have that on my resume and noted as current place of business?
I am trying to post as the business company page and getting a message that says “remove your attachment in order to post from another account”.
What does that mean and how do I do that? I run a news website and basically we have a LinkedIn share option to different platforms including LI – but it’s giving me this message when I try to do it.
Hi Sandy, not sure why that happens, never heard that before. Send me a link to your website and I’ll have a look.
Did you get an answer to this? I’m having the same difficulty…
Hi Maria-Francesca, not heard of this problem before but what sometimes helps is to try from a different browser like Firefox, Chrome or Safari. Feel free to send us a screenshot if it doesn’t solve it.
I am having the same problem using Firefox. I would send you a screenshot except I don’t see a way to do so here. I’m posting from Wix; not sure if anyone else is using Wix.
Hi Laura,
Unfortunately, this seems to be a LinkedIn API issue that some people are running into. There are multiple people messaging LinkedIn about this error, however, at present, it does not look like this has been resolved yet.
As a workaround have you tried copying and pasting the link you would like to share into a new Post on LinkedIn over clicking on a Share button?
Best wishes,
Alastair
Hello, how do I connect with people via the company page and not my personal page as I am logged into my personal page in order to access the company page? It seems I have to connect with them personally first before i can connect via the company. Also when I post into the company page how do I stop it coming up with my name that I have posted into the page?
Hi Sophie, you can only connect with people with your personal account not with your company page. LinkedIn connections are people connecting to people. People can however follow businesses, but not connect with them. Unless it is a business that has created a personal profile. Too many of those on LinkedIn and it’s not the right way of doing it. Only you as an admin will see your name, others will not see your name under the company post. Hope this helps.
When you post an update as a company page who does it get visible to – the connections on your personal account alone or to all of LI?
Also – there is mention of something of a “target audience” – how do you select that and again, is that ONLY within your own contacts already or ALL of LI?
Thanks so much!
Hi Lana, it is visible to the followers of your page and to anyone else really. It’s like a Facebook page. By posting on your company page the followers will get a notification but it will also be visible to anyone else coming across your page.
You can indeed target your audience but that audience must at least be 300+ followers. So if you have a lot of followers you can target on location, job title etc. The targeting refers to your company followers. Hope this helps!
I am an admin on our company page. I’d like to connect or company page to our company CRM, which requires login credentials. I do not want to provide my personal login credentials. How can I set up specific login credentials just for our company account?
Hi Andrea, LinkedIn only asks for your login credentials to verify you as an admin of the page which will enable you to link LinkedIn to your CRM. It will not share your login details with other members of the team. Hope this helps.
Hi, may I know if it is possible to separate the company profile from the personal account such that I do not have to log into my personal account in order to access my company account (e.g. I can use a separate email and password to access straight to my company linkedin page).
Thank you very much.
Hi Jian, you can only access the LI Company page using your personal credentials but rest assured there is no sharing of data/messages etc. from your personal account to the company page. Your personal LI messages will stay personal.
Hope this helps.
Hello. Can I split the company profile from my personal account? i.e. change email addresses on the company account *IF* I leave the company?
Hello Barb,
To do this you would need to have another person at the company as an Admin on the LinkedIn Company Page. Here’s LinkedIn’s guide on adding/removing admins: https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/37594/adding-or-removing-admins-on-your-linkedin-page?lang=en
Hope this helps.
I’ve been made an admin of our company page as requested by my manager but it won’t let me post to it? When I click our company page it says I am viewing as an admin and has all the ‘edit’ options but when I go to actually post it comes up with an error message. I’ve tried removing myself and resending admin requests but still the same issue. When I logged in as another admin they had no problem in posting an update to the company page. Despite being an admin, it doesn’t even appear on the ‘manage’ section when I click on ‘me’.
I’ve tried googling this and there is nothing on this issue. Really need an answer I’ve been put in charge of doing updates from the company page but obviously can’t… have tried contacting linkedin too.
Hi Nigel, strange problem. Not heard of that one before. Might sound strange but have you tried it with another browser? I had some problems before with LinkedIn posting but when I changed browser it solved itself. What browser are you using?
Rene
Hi Rene,
We’ve encountered a similar problem, especially when trying to post on cell phones. I want to post from my personal account, but I am the admin of the company I want to post to, and always encounter problems of it posting from the company to the company, not from my personal account to the company. Please help!
Hi Kristen, yes the mobile LinkedIn app does have limited functionality although you can now on the app view posts on your page as a member and not as an admin. You can find that on the top of the page/post. Also, using the browser on the phone instead of the app will solve that problem. Hope this helps.
Hello,
Are you still having providing skype / calls on this topic? I am currently setting up a company page for a company and am very confused on how to navigate from the company page as an admin vs. my personal. I would like to set up some time to speak, please.
Thank you!
Hi Rachel, sure! How about this Monday the 24th? Send me an email and will get a time in the diary. ([email protected])
Hello,
I have a similar problem where my personal account is linked to the company page (educational page), where the personal account figure as the admin. However, when I try to connect with someone/follow them, they receive the “request” from the personal page (the admin profile), instead of from the company page. How can I make connections through the company page where the receiver gets the invitation/request from the company instead of the personal account?
I hope you can help me out!
Sincerely,
Marthe Vegusdal
Hi Marthe, yes it is not possible to send a connection request to a person from the business. Only people can connect with people so it’s not possible to send an invite from the company page. People can follow business pages but not connect with them.
Hope this helps.
Rene
Is there a way to “connect” or “follow” other companies or people through a company page. Currently when I connect the receiver gets a notification from my personal account
Hi Nicole, unfortunately not. Only people can follow and connect with other people, not companies. Hope this helps!
A former employee set up our company page as linked to her personal page. Is there a way to unlink this as she is no longer an employee?
Hi Amy, you need to be an admin of the page yourself before you can remove the ex-employee. If your not an admin, you need to ask the ex-employee if she can add you to the page before she removes herself. Hope this helps.
Been reading the list above but not clear about something: If I add another Admin person do they need my personal log-in details to access the company page? I don’t want them to have those for obvious reasons.
Hi Kim, you don’t need (and never should) share your login details. You simply can add people to your company page by name. Click on “Admin Tools” and add new admins there. Hope this helps!
Hi I am going to open a company page, but I see the comment on people not able to separate their LinkedIn personal account to a company page. How can I do it?
I too have the same problem where my name is being displayed above all posts on my company page. I dont want my name there, it must be only the company.
Hi Ameen. Your name will only be displayed above the post when you share it from the LinkedIn company page. When you post it from the company page your name might be visible when you post it from there but only to yourself as you are the admin, not to others.
Hope this helps,
Rene
I am experiencing a similar challenge, I want to post an article for my company but I don’t want it to be reflected on my personal page. How can I completely separate this please?
Hi Saali, when posting on the Business Page it will not be automatically shared or referenced on your Personal Profile.
I have the same problem. When I go to Connections, all of my Personal connections are mixed in with the Company Connections. How can they be separated?
I work for many small local businesses, one of which I need to set up a company page for, however I do not want invites or shared posts to come from my account or have any link whats so ever, which a lot of people on here seem to have this problem. I’ve been reading through these comments and it’s not clear how you can actually set up a company page without connecting to your personal account? Is the way instructed on the article the correct way to set up a company page, or is there something else that should be done to insure they are completely separate.
Hi Gemma, you have to use a personal LinkedIn Account to create a Company Page. When posting on the company page the author will be the company not you, it will not share these posts on to your profile either. If you do not want to manage the page once it has been created you can add additional admins through the Company Page control panel. Any admins that you add will then be able to post and update settings on the company page. Hope this helps.
My linked in company page is associated with an employee who no longer wants it linked to his personal page. How do I break the link to his page and substitute a link to my personal page? Is it possible to set up a company personal page that links to the company page so that we don’t have to link to a specific employee? Thank you!
Hi Laurie, hopefully these steps should help you resolve your issue.
How to add an admin to your Company Page:
1. On the top of your homepage, move your cursor over “Interests” and select “Companies” in the dropdown menu.
2. Enter your company name into the search box and click on your name from the list.
3. Click on the blue “Edit” button on the top right of the screen.
4. On the “Overview” page, scroll down to find the section called “Company Pages Admin.” It will be on the left.
5. Under “Designated Admins,” type the name of the connection that you want to make an admin. Note: You must be connected to the person on LinkedIn before you can make them an admin.
6. Click “Publish” at the top of the page.
To remove an admin from your Company Page:
1. Follow the above steps 1 through 4.
2. Under “Designated Admins,” find the admin you would like to remove and click the X to the right of their name.
3. Click “Publish” at the top of the page.
If you would like request administrative rights from your Company Page admin, follow these steps:
1. On your LinkedIn profile, add and confirm your company email address.
2. List your current position with the company on your profile.
3. On your Company Page, scroll down to the “Want to help manage this page?” section.
4. Click on “See Admins” to see the current admins for your Company Page.
5. As a 1st-degree connection to an admin, you can simply request to become an additional admin for the Company Page. If you’re not a 1st-degree connection to any company admins, you will need to connect with an admin first on LinkedIn.
Hope this helps, Alastair.
I blog often and I genuinely appreciate your
content. Your article has truly peaked my interest. I am going to take a
note of your blog and keep checking for new information
about once a week. I opted in for your Feed
as well.
Hello, Thank you for this information. I have a related question. I would like to share someones post on our company LinkedIn profile. When I hit the share button it shows up on my personal LinkedIn feed. The only way I found to put the information on the company LinkedIn was to create a link to the post but this shows up as a url rather than looking like the original post. The photos are much more engaging.
Indeed Sabrina, you can’t share a personal post to a business page. You could however mention the person in a post created by the company page. More or less linking to the original creator.
Hope this helps, Rene
Making my LinkedIn profile completely private does it make my company page also private or not?
Hi Amit, no making your personal Linkedin profile private should not effect the visibility of your company page. Hope this helps, Alastair.
Hi, I am also having a problem with the link between my personal page and company page. I created a company page from the same account as my personal, but would like to allow other employees to access the company page without giving them my personal information. Is this possible?
Hi Scott, you can add additional users as administrators to LinkedIn Company Pages.
To add an admin to your Company Page follow these steps:
– Click the “Me” icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.
– Below Manage, select your Company Page.
– Click on “Admin Tools” at the top right of the page and click “Manage Admins”.
– Click on the type of admin you want to add at the top of the page (Designated Admin, Recruiting Poster, or Direct Sponsored Content Poster).
– Start typing the person’s name you want to add in the text box.
– Click Save.
Hi Renee,
I have the same problem as everyone in this blog. I have not found your replies answer the question. How can we separate our company page from our personal page? There is no point having a company page if it acts as a personal page. Would it be possible for you post a video explaining how to separate these accounts so that they act independently?
Thanks
Hello Denis, a page needs at least one admin. Viewers cannot see who the admins are. Other admins can but they cannot access each other’s personal settings and cannot see more of your profile than other LinkedIn users.
Hi there, our company page is under our boss’ personal account, we have to use her personal email and password to log in each time. We’d like to create a new account let’s say under “[email protected]” and still keep the connections/ followers on my boss’ account as well as transferring them to the new one. I found a merge function on Linkedin but if we merge two accounts I’m worried that the connections will just be moved to the new one but not duplicated. Could you please suggest a better way? Thanks!
Hi Fiona, we’re planning a Facebook live session which will cover this. We’ll keep you posted!
Hi there,I had to create a client a new company page (its attached to my personal LI) However, I m trying to invite employees and start gaining followers, but it seems the invite comes from me personally (I don’t want that) . How do you seperate (completely) personal from Company? It told me to add as a “company” page, but still seems linked to my profile (I simply want the company page COMPLETELY on its own).
Hi Debra, you can add more admins to the page (the marketing manager of the company for example) and remove yourself. This should solve the issue. Hope this helps, keep me posted.
Hi, I am having the same issue, my company page is linked to my profile and if I want to share something from the company page it automatically shares from my personal page. How do I separate these pages without losing access to the company page?
Hi Lindsey,
Yes, when you share something from your company page you always share it with your personal profile. Which is actually what you should be doing to reach a wider audience. What we describe in this blog post is that some people created a business page using a personal profile which is not good. I’m happy to schedule a Skype call with you to discuss your issue?
I am having this issue too and I’m not exactly following the instructions here. Is it possible to set up a Skype call?
Hi Jane, happy to schedule a Skype call with you. I’ve sent you a LinkedIn invitation to connect, maybe we can take it from there?
We are having the same issue. Our law firm’s LI page is currently connected to my personal LI page. How do we uncouple the corporate page from my personal account without deleting the corporate page? A new marketing manager is to take over the account but I don’t want to add her as an admin before uncoupling it from my personal account? HELP!! Thank you!!
Hello Kim, the page needs to have at least one administrator. Once you add your colleague as an admin then you can remove yourself without deleting the page. Other admins can see who other admins are but they will not have access to each other’s personal profile settings. If they were to visit your personal profile they can see no more than other LinkedIn members.
Hello,
I have apersonal LinkedIn page and administer a company page. I can post updates as the company, but cannot seem to Like or Share other people’s posts as the company. Also cannot connect with people as the company, only as myself. Can you help?
Thank you.
Hi Lisa, at the moment you can only share other people’s posts as yourself and not as the business. You can however copy the link to post and share it as an update on your company page. The way to do this is to click on the three dots top right of the post and select “copy link to post” Then go to your company page and share it as an update. You can also tag the original poster in your update. Hope this helps! [Rene]
i have the same issue as Sarah. Can you help? Thank you
Hi Chris, the reply I gave to Tonya, will that help you too?
Hi – that’s really useful. Maybe you can help me further. I have recently set up a company page, but cannot separate it from my personal page. Whenever I try and connect/share from the company page, all that shows up to the people I am connecting to is my personal page. I can’t find a way of disconnecting them, and it’s taken hours of frustrated fiddling!!
Asking LinkedIn for help has proved useless, so I’m asking you.
Thanks,
Sarah Holliday (company page https://www.linkedin.com/company-beta/11951824/)
Hi Sarah, sorry to hear of the problems with your LinkedIn company page. I’ve sent you an email to get in touch, I’m sure we can help!
I’m having the same problem, could you also let me know how to separate company and personal profiles so our company can send things without being linked to my personal profile.
Thank you!
Hi Tonya, when a company page sends out an update it’s not linked to your personal profile. Only when you interact with that post, like, comment or share, then it is linked. If you don’t want to link your personal profile to the company page you need to remove it from your profile but that is actually not something you would like to do. Hope this makes sense.
I have the exact problem. Please share how they solved it for you
