Shetland Business Week 2017

A week of talks, panel sessions, speakers and networking opportunities, all for FREE!

 

We are delighted to be part of Shetland’s first Business Week taking place from 25th of February to 4th of March.

Organised by Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Business Gateway and the Federation of Small Businesses all the events taking place in Lerwick are aimed at helping delegates to grow their business.

Rene Looper, of Tuminds Social Media, has been asked to deliver a workshop on Digital Marketing Strategy and Analytics.

Digital marketing can deliver real world business growth, and this workshop will show the delegates a practical strategy for success.
This inspiring workshop features practical steps needed to design a digital marketing strategy and then use data analytics to make sure the Return of Investment (ROI) of social media becomes more clearer.

Successful strategies have three key elements: Content Creation, Content Publication and Content Amplification. Delegates will learn time-efficient techniques for developing these elements so they can confidently drive more traffic to the website.

Key themes covered include: the use of Shetland dialect branding, developing young people, social media, collaborative working, digital marketing and specific industry panel discussions.

Digital Marketing Strategy and Analytics – DigitalBoost

This is a ‘DigitalBoost’ event which is funded by Digital Scotland and delivered by and Highlands & Islands Enterprise in partnership with Business Gateway and Scottish Enterprise.

Orkney is set to host its first ever Business Festival in April, aimed at providing advice and inspiration for anyone keen to launch their very own enterprise in the future.

A mix of entrepreneurs, industry experts and advisers, both local and from elsewhere in Scotland, will be on hand to provide all the advice you need to start or grow your business.

Those who have already taken successful steps into business locally will be on hand to share their secrets. Meanwhile experts from elsewhere will provide hints, tips and advice to everyone involved on how to start, grow and maintain their own business models.

Rene Looper of Tuminds Social Media will share tips on making the most of social media to grow your business.

Since I’ve been involved with PASMA, the lead trade association for the mobile access tower industry, I’m looking at scaffolding in a very different way. When I say scaffolding I really mean “Mobile Access Tower”, there is a difference as Maarten, head of Operations, Communications and Innovation at PASMA explained to me.

We’re delighted to have been asked to help PASMA with their social media strategy and we certainly learned a lot about the different types of access towers and the training and certification involved. Health and Safety obviously plays a big part in this industry.

Pasma recently attended the Safety and Health EXPO, the hashtag #SHexpo  (you can see why they’ve changed the word order) being used by exhibitors pre, during and post the event.

The next big event on the PASMA calendar is the annual PASMA AMM which is taking place in the beautiful Coombe Abbey Hotel in Coventry, Warwickshire.

This event will be attended by companies involved in the industry and speakers like Ray Cooke of the HSE will inform the delegates about Working Well Together (WWT), and Rupert Douglas-Jones will introduce the new Work at Height Manager training course from the Access Industry Forum (AIF).

Someone else not to be missed is PASMA’s after dinner speaker. We look forward to an evening with teacher, broadcaster and writer, Dr Howie Firth, MBE. Howie is director of Orkney International Science Festival. He has lectured in 11 countries and written widely. Awards include an honorary degree from the Open University and an MBE for services to popular science in the UK. His stories and anecdotes are second to none!

We are also delighted to speak at this event on the opportunities of social media and how to make it part of a company’s social media strategy.

Whilst doing research on the access tower industry I’m delighted to see that a good proportion of the delegates have a social media presence in some shape or form. Most have a Facebook page and Twitter account whilst others have ventured into using Pinterest, LinkedIn, Youtube and some even Instagram! Prepare for some interesting tweets coming from #AMMPasma!

Highlands and Islands Enterprise – Digital Scotland Excellence Centre, is proud to present this inspiring and interactive digital masterclass event aimed at tourism businesses in the Highlands and Islands keen to improve their online presence and increase sales. Three different masterclasses will be presented by engaging digital experts, keen to share their collective experiences with tips and tools on how businesses can make better use of the different social and digital platforms available to them.  These three sessions will run in parallel throughout the morning so that everyone gets the chance to attend them all.

The masterclasses will not only offer businesses practical help and advice on realising their Digital ambitions, but delegates will also have the opportunity of engaging with the speakers on an individual basis to obtain more tailored advice.

Representatives from Business Gateway, HIE Digital and Digital Scotland will also be on hand to advise on the levels of support and advice available to tourism businesses in the Highlands, and to provide an update on progress being made with the roll out of Fibre Broadband across the region.

Delegates will also hear from other Tourism businesses already experiencing the benefits of an improved digital presence including an increase in visitor numbers and sales, and who will be happy to share top tips on how they reached new markets and customers by investing in IT and digital.
